On November 2nd, the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation hosted our 4th annual Native American Heritage Month Luncheon. Our special guest storyteller, Dixie Brewer, was presented the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation Appreciation Award, and we raised over $2,000 toward the Chickasaw Heritage Center Journey Home Capital Campaign. Thank you to all of our supporters, our emcee Matt Laubhan, and to all those in attendance!
On Saturday, October 26th, the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation and the Chickasaw Nation’s Heritage Preservation Division held a Chickasaw Celebration at Shiloh National Military Park, which is also the home to Shiloh Mounds. Both school children, and the public had the opportunity to play stickball, enjoy traditional Chickasaw storytelling and learn more about the historic Homeland. This event also featured a presentation on the Chickasaw Nation and Inkana Foundation’s work in the Homeland from the Director of the forthcoming Chickasaw Heritage Center, Mr. Brad Deramus.
On Monday, October 14, 2024, the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation celebrated Piominko Day with a wreath laying ceremony at the Piominko statue in Fairpark in front of Tupelo City Hall. Hosted by the CIF, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Tupelo, the event had over 100 people in attendance with multiple educational stations for families making corn-husk dolls, playing stickball, and learning about Chickasaw history and culture in the historic Chickasaw Homeland.
The Chickasaw Dance Troupe also participated and provided the celebration with a significant interpretive element with their social dancing demonstrations. We are thankful to Mayor Todd Jordan and all of our supporters for helping make October 14th Piominko Day in the city of Tupelo!
For the second time, the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation has honored community members who have contributed to the preservation of the Chickasaw Nation or exemplified its philanthropic nature in the group’s homeland.
On Thursday, members of the Chickasaw Nation honored Mitch Caver, co-author of “Piominko: Chickasaw Leader,” and CREATE Foundation President Mike Clayborne for his work in philanthropy through the nonprofit, as part of the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation Legacy Gala. The formal event, which included a dinner and awards ceremony, was held at the Cadence Bank Arena and Conference Center in Tupelo.
The Chickasaw Inkana Foundation Holiday Reception is a private holiday themed gathering for donors and constituents of the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation. In 2023, the Holiday Reception was hosted on December 7th at the Cadence Bank Arena VIP Lounge.
Live Music, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and libations were served.
The Chickasaw Inkana Foundation’s third annual Native American Heritage Month Luncheon celebrated and appreciated the diverse and rich cultures, histories, and traditions of all Native Americans. This was an educational fundraising event and 100% of all monies raised went toward the Chickasaw Heritage Center Journey Home Capital Campaign Fund. The Chickasaw Inkana Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation sponsoring this Luncheon and leading the effort to build the Chickasaw Heritage Center.
The Chickasaw Inkana Foundation (CIF) celebrated the third annual Wreath Laying Commemoration honoring the life and legacy of Piominko, noted Chickasaw Leader and Diplomat.
This event highlighted the historical significance of Piominko’s leadership in the historic Chickasaw Homeland. Special remarks were delivered by the CIF Board and Staff, Tupelo City officials and other local dignitaries.
Piominko formalized the Chickasaw’s alliance with the United States government. He was the first to define the Chickasaw Nation treaty boundaries on a map drafted at the Hopewell, South Carolina, treaty proceedings in 1786. He also received a U.S. George Washington presidential peace medal.
